A Quick Check List On Workplace Safety
No matter how harmless your workplace seem to be, accidents do happen when you least expect it. Your workplace is not a safe place. Be on your toes and keep your eyes of open for any possibility of accidents. The simplest thing can cause accidents. Even a simple phone ring can distract you from your work and can cause an injury, especially if you are dealing with unsafe equipments.

There are literally hundreds of things that can cause injuries in the workplace. To give you an idea about how to keep yourself safe, here is a quick checklist of the things you should be aware of at all times.

ƒNever try to use broken equipments. Do not try to fix faulty tools if you do not have the proper knowledge and training to do so. Leave it as it is and inform your supervisor of the situation. Most accidents arise from workers trying to make broken equipments to work.

ƒIf you happen to spill any liquid on the floor clean them up immediately. Slipping is one of the most common accidents in the workplace. Even this can lead to serious physical injuries. Use non-slip rugs instead of the cloth rugs. Janitorial staff often place a warning sign that reads ¡§caution: wet floor¡¨. Be extra careful when you are in these areas.

ƒWhen not in use, keep your file cabinets closed at all times. Some people might bump their heads or trip over open drawers. Do not overload your cabinets.

ƒAlways use lifts, pulleys, inclined planes or other things that can help you lift heavy objects. Do not carry them on your own to prevent back injuries. Ask the help of others if they are no lifting tools available.

ƒAn organized electrical wiring system can prevent the possibility of electric shock and fire. To avoid tripping, avoid placing long cords in walking areas. It is not advisable to keep them under carpets either because this may conceal tattered wiring that may cause fires. Do not use extension cords for more than 30 days. You should request for a proper electrical outlet in your working area if you need to.

ƒWhen reaching for objects in high place, always use a stable stool or ladder. Never uses wheeled tables or chairs; this can cause you to fall.

ƒMake sure that hazardous chemicals are properly disposed of. Common office equipments like aerosol cans should be completely empty before putting them in the trash
